Forty-five years after a football player spotted a music major across the room at an Edinboro party, Bob Cicerchi and Carolyn Ganter Gordon are coming home.

And this time, they鈥檙e getting married.

Cicerchi and Gordon will exchange vows on the field at Sox Harrison Stadium prior to 性视界传媒 Edinboro鈥檚 Homecoming football game Saturday, Oct. 3 鈥� returning to the place that has been part of their story since they were students in 1980.

Cicerchi, a middle linebacker and captain of the Edinboro football team from Parma, Ohio, was named an All-American in 1981 and inducted into the Edinboro Athletics Hall of Fame in 2007. Gordon was a trumpet player from Ambridge, Pennsylvania, who spent two years performing on the same field as part of the marching band.

Their relationship began off the field, when Cicerchi interrupted Gordon as she danced with one of his friends at a party.

鈥淚 saw him looking at me from across the room, and he walks up and says, 鈥楨xcuse me, Lowry, but I鈥檓 pulling rank on you,鈥欌�� Gordon recalled. 鈥淎nd he pushed him aside and started dancing with me.鈥�

The two dated about a year before Gordon鈥檚 family moved to Florida following the collapse of the steel industry. In an era before social media, cellphones and online searches made staying connected easy, they lost touch.

Thirty-five years passed.

Both built lives and experienced profound losses along the way. Gordon was widowed after the sudden death of her husband, and Cicerchi lost a girlfriend to cancer. Eventually, through a series of circumstances neither could have anticipated, they found one another again on Facebook.

Ten years ago, they reunited in person at Edinboro Homecoming.

Now, after a decade back together and five years engaged, they decided there was only one place that made sense for their wedding.

鈥淲hy not get married at Edinboro, where we met?鈥� Cicerchi said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 very special to be a part of the Edinboro Fighting Scots football team and an alumnus. It鈥檚 just fitting for both of us to come back to where we met.鈥�

The couple now lives in South Florida but continues to make Edinboro part of their lives 鈥� even naming their Class B travel van 鈥淰an Boro,鈥� complete with a Fighting Scot emblem on the front.

This October, Van Boro will once again make the trip north.

Only this time, Cicerchi will leave Homecoming with his college sweetheart as his wife.

鈥淚 loved her 45 years ago,鈥� he said, 鈥渁nd I certainly love her today.鈥�

The ceremony will add another memorable chapter to 性视界传媒 Edinboro鈥檚 annual Homecoming celebration, set for Oct. 1-3.

Thursday, Oct. 1

Students will kick off the weekend with a spirited, tartan-clad Pep Rally at 7 p.m. at the Standing Stones near the Highlands Residence Halls.

Friday, Oct. 2

Friday鈥檚 Homecoming activities begin with the Alumni & Friends Golf Outing at 9 a.m. at Culbertson Hills Golf Club, followed by the Class of 1976 reunion luncheon at noon in Baron-Forness Library. The women鈥檚 soccer team takes on Pitt-Johnstown at 3 p.m. at Sox Harrison Stadium, while the Bruce Gallery will host MFA Alumni Artist Talks, a closing reception and panel discussion from 4-7 p.m.

A dedication and tour of the WFSE podcasting studio in Compton Hall is scheduled from 5:30-7 p.m. The Black Student Union Association will close out the evening with a Homecoming Dance for students at 8 p.m. in Frank G. Pogue Student Center.

Alumni and friends are also encouraged to reconnect Friday evening at favorite downtown Edinboro gathering places.

Saturday, Oct. 3

Saturday festivities begin with an Alumni House open house at 9 a.m. The Kilted Mile Walk/Roll/Run gets underway at 10:30 a.m. on Meadville Street, while KidZone activities, community vendors and the Student Art Club Sale will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Doucette and Memorial Hall lawns.

The annual Homecoming Parade steps off at 11 a.m., beginning at the edge of campus on Darrow Road, proceeding north on Meadville Street and looping back to campus via Waterford, High and Normal streets.

A complimentary community lunch will be served at noon in front of Doucette Hall.

At 1 p.m., alumni and friends will gather for the traditional tailgate at Sox Harrison Stadium before the Fighting Scots host IUP at 2 p.m. The 2026 Homecoming Court will be presented during halftime.

Pregame activities will include two special Homecoming moments. Members of Edinboro鈥檚 1975 PSAC West Champion football team will be recognized, and Cicerchi and Gordon will exchange vows on the field where he once played football and she performed with the marching band.
