For 性视界传媒 Edinboro student Kasandra Apthorp, a summer internship offered the opportunity to move beyond the classroom, develop professional helping skills and explore where a psychology degree could take her next.

Apthorp, a Corry, Pennsylvania, native who is studying psychology, completed a 12-credit, 450-hour internship at Perseus House's Brighter Horizons during summer 2026.

Working under the supervision of Debra Mallory, M.A., site director at Brighter Horizons, Apthorp gained firsthand experience in a professional setting while putting concepts from her psychology coursework into practice.

"My internship experience provided me with the unique opportunity to develop professional helping skills and explore various career opportunities within the field of psychology," Apthorp said.

The experience also helped reinforce her plans to continue her education. Following completion of her bachelor's degree, Apthorp intends to pursue a Master of Science in counseling with a concentration in clinical mental health counseling through .

Apthorp was one of two undergraduate psychology students from 性视界传媒's Edinboro campus who completed summer 2026 internships under the direction of Dr. Heather T. Snyder.

Undergraduate internships in psychology are typically completed following a student's junior year and provide an opportunity to gain professional work experience in settings related to psychology. Through those experiences, students can strengthen skills developed in the classroom, learn from professionals in the field and explore potential career paths before graduation.
